Our Story
At Faith Forward Ministries, Inc., we believe that no one is defined by their past, their struggles, or a number on a client file. We see individuals. We see families. And above all, we see a future filled with hope.
As a completely volunteer-run 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving Westmoreland County and surrounding areas, our mission is simple yet profound: to share the love of God in practical, life-changing ways and equip individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, or substance use disorders to move forward.
How We Started: A Personal Call to Action
Our journey began out of a deeply personal reality. Our founder and Executive Director, Dawn Hennesey—a licensed faith-based therapist with over 20 years of experience in mental health and addiction counseling—saw firsthand the devastating, destructive wake that addiction leaves behind. More importantly, she realized how little support existed for the families and children caught in the crossfire.
Statistics show that 1 out of 4 children live in homes with active addiction. Witnessing the rising local poverty rates, the crushing weight of the opioid epidemic, and the heartbreaking rise of babies born with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS), Dawn knew that sitting on the sidelines wasn't an option. Guided by faith and a passion to serve, she answered the call to build a ministry that provides a soft landing place and a launchpad for recovery.
What We Do: Faith in Action
We know that true recovery and healing require addressing the whole person—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. To fight the stigma of addiction and bring vital resources directly to our community, Faith Forward Ministries operates entirely on community donations and the tireless hearts of volunteers.
Our core community programs include:
- Angel Arms Infant and Children Recovery Homes: Providing specialized, compassionate care, support, and a safe haven for the most vulnerable among us—infants and children affected by substance use.
- Project Stand: Our signature community awareness initiative. Bringing together thousands of local residents, Project Stand serves as a powerful reminder that our community is "Standing Against Addiction" through education, connection, and grace.
- Counseling & Support Groups: Offering free, licensed faith-based therapy, addiction counseling, and peer support groups to help individuals navigate the bumps in the road. Community Outreach: From Random Gifts of Kindness to custom educational workshops, we meet people exactly where they are with food, supplies, and encouragement.
Looking Forward
Every single day, we witness the overwhelming effects of addiction, but we also witness something much stronger: the power of community, resilience, and faith. We aren't just here to offer a temporary fix. We are here to build lasting connections, establish a voice for those who need it most, and cheer on every individual as they step into their purpose.
Whether you are looking for support, wanting to educate your family, or hoping to make an impact as a volunteer or donor, there is a place for you in our story. Together, we can change the stigma. Together, we move faith forward.
